In the 2024 Press conferences on COVID-19 and other global health
issues the general director of WHO Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus among
other subjects that had been discussed in the conference talked about condition
and conflicts in Gaza/Palestine.
He mentioned that the situation remains beyond catastrophe, and
the al-awda hospital remains under siege, inside 148 health employees including
health administers, health workers, cleaners and volunteers along
with 22 patients with there companions remain trap. this is the second time the
al-awda hospital has been sieged since the beginning of the conflict.
During the war the hospital suffered significance loses including
death of 14 employees and injuries to dozens more.
In Kamal adwan Hospital inter-hostilities have compromised its
ability to provide care and made it harder for patients to reach.
And these are the two only functional hospitals in north Gaza
insuring there abilities to deliver health services is imperative.
In Rafa heavy military attacks are continuing and causalities are
increasing, over 800000 people now have fled but many hundreds of thousands are
remaining.
Crossing from Egypt to Gaza have remained closed for two weeks
cutting of the primary pipe line and emergency supplies to Gaza. Six hospitals
and nine primary health centers had been impacted, over seventy shelters now
have lost access to there medical points .
Daily consultation have fallen to 40% and immunization by 50%
approximately 700 serious patient and who would have evacuated for medical care
are stuck in the war zone.
At this time when the people of Gaza are facing starvation we urge
Israel to lift the blockage and to let a through. WHO has prepositioned some
supplies in warehouses and hospitals but without more aid flowing to Gaza we
can’t sustain our life saving support to hospitals and the population.
What is needed now more than ever is the ceasefire and to get aid to Gaza.
