CORE COURSES

1-Principles of Anesthesiology:-

The principle of Anesthesiology module is typically a part of an anesthesia technician or anesthesia assistant program. It provides students with an introduction to the principles and practices of anesthesia, including the history of anesthesia, the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and the pharmacology of anesthetic drugs. Some of the topics covered in the Anesthesia  module may include:

  • The history of anesthesia and the evolution of anesthesia practice

  •  The role of the anesthesia technician or assistant in the operating room

  •  The anatomy and physiology of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems

  •  The pharmacology of anesthetic drugs, including their mechanisms of action, side effects, and interactions with other medications.

  •  The principles and techniques of airway management, including intubation and ventilation.

  •  The basics of monitoring patients during anesthesia, including measuring vital signs and monitoring the depth of anesthesia.

  •  The use of anesthesia equipment, including machines, monitors, and other specialized equipment.

The Anesthesia I module is typically delivered through a combination of lectures, hands-on laboratory experience, and clinical observations in operating rooms and other healthcare settings. The goal of the module is to provide students with a foundational understanding of the principles and practices of anesthesia, so that they can effectively assist licensed anesthesiologists in the delivery of patient care.


2-Anesthesia Management:-

The Anesthesia management module is typically a continuation of the principles of the Anesthesiology module in an anesthesia technician or anesthesia assistant program. It builds upon the foundational knowledge and skills developed in the first module, and provides students with a more in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of anesthesia.

Some of the topics covered in the Anesthesia II module may include:

  • Advanced airway management techniques, including fiberoptic intubation and alternative airway devices.
  •  Advanced pharmacology of anesthetic drugs, including the use of neuromuscular blocking agents, induction agents, and pain management medications.
  • Advanced patient monitoring techniques, including the use of electroencephalography (EEG) and other monitoring tools.
  • Advanced techniques in fluid and electrolyte management, blood product administration, and blood glucose management.
  • The principles and practices of regional anesthesia, including peripheral nerve blocks and epidural anesthesia.
  • The management of emergency situations in the operating room, including cardiac and respiratory arrests, and the use of resuscitation equipment.
  • The principles of post-operative pain management, including the use of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps and other pain management techniques.


3-Human Anatomy and Physiology:-

Human Anatomy and Physiology is the study of anatomical structures crucial for safe and accurate administration of anesthesia and how living organisms and their parts function. It covers the basic principles and mechanisms of body functions such as respiration,circulation, digestion, and metabolism. A Physiology module focuses on the regulation and coordination of various bodily systems, including the nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory,gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems. The module covers topics such as cell physiology,neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, respiratory physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, and endocrine physiology. Understanding physiological principles and mechanisms is important for individuals in the medical and related fields to diagnose and treat diseases effectively.


3-Intensive care I :-

  • The Intensive Care I module provides an introduction to the care of critically ill patients.
  • Students learn about the principles of patient assessment, airway management, and respiratory support in the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • The module covers topics such as fluid and electrolyte management, infection control, and pharmacology in the ICU.
  • Students are introduced to the use of advanced monitoring and life support technologies in the ICU.
  • The Intensive Care I module provides a foundation for the understanding of the care of critically ill patients in the ICU setting.


4-Intensive Care II:-

  • The Intensive Care II module builds upon the knowledge and skills learned in the Intensive Care I module.
  • Students learn about advanced techniques for patient assessment and management in the ICU.
  • The module covers topics such as advanced airway management, mechanical ventilation, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Students learn about the care of specific patient populations, such as patients with traumatic injury, burn injury, and neurological disorders.
  • The Intensive Care II module provides a comprehensive understanding of the care of critically ill patients in the ICU setting, including advanced techniques and the care of specific patient populations.


5-Medicine:-

The Medicine module provides an introduction to the principles and practice of clinical medicine. Students learn about the assessment and management of common medical conditions, including those affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems. The module covers topics such as physical examination, differential diagnosis, and the use of diagnostic tests and imaging studies. In addition, students learn about the principles of pharmacology, including drug administration, dosing, and monitoring. The Medicine module provides a foundation for the understanding of the care of medical patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.


6-Surgery:-

The Surgery module provides an introduction to the principles and practice of surgical care. Students learn about preoperative evaluation, preparation, and management of surgical patients. The module covers topics such as surgical anatomy and physiology, surgical instrumentation, and the use of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. In addition, students learn about the principles of surgical wound healing and infection control. The Surgery I module provides a foundation for the understanding of the care of surgical patients in the perioperative period. The Surgery module provides a comprehensive understanding of the care of surgical patients in the perioperative period, including the management of patients undergoing major surgical procedures and the management of surgical emergencies.


7-Anesthesia Instrument and Monitoring:-

The Anesthesia Instrument and Monitoring module provides an overview of the equipment used in the delivery of anesthesia care and monitoring. Students learn about the principles of anesthesia equipment design and function, including the use of anesthesia machines, ventilators, and monitoring devices. The module covers topics such as the selection and use of airway management devices, the management of the breathing circuit, and the maintenance and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment. In addition, students learn about the principles of safe patient positioning and the use of specialized equipment in the delivery of anesthesia care. The Anesthesia Equipment module provides a foundation for the understanding of the equipment used in the delivery of anesthesia care, including the principles of equipment design and function, the selection and use of equipment, and the maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.


8-Medical Emergencies:-

Medical Emergencies deals with the immediate management and treatment of sudden and critical illnesses or injuries. in this module, the students will learn about how to assist and manage life-threatening conditions including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, anaphylaxis management, suffocation choking, and severe bleeding, among others.


9-Hematology and Blood Transfusion:-

In this course, students learn about blood composition and its components. They will be able to define the importance of blood products and blood injections, explain how to store and preserve blood and use it for patients according to physicians’ orders. They will also be able to understand the possible complications following blood transfusion and manage them.


10-Microbiology and Sterilization:-

Microbiology and sterilization that deals with Infection Control plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of infections within healthcare settings. They must follow proper hand hygiene protocols, use personal protective equipment, and adhere to infection control guidelines. The course-induced sterilization methods for anesthetic students equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively sterilize and maintain surgical instruments, ensuring patient safety and infection control during procedures.


11-Pharmacology:-

The pharmacology course for anesthetic students provides a comprehensive understanding of drugs used in anesthesia practice. It covers topics such as drug interactions, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and adverse effects. Students learn to select and administer appropriate medications for different patient populations, ensuring safe and effective anesthesia management.


12-Fundamental of Nursing:-

Fundamental of nursing refers to the basic principles and skills that every anesthetic nurse should possess. These fundamentals include: Patient Assessment: Nurses must be able to assess the physical, mental, and emotional status of patients. This includes gathering information about their medical history, current symptoms, and vital signs. Medication Administration: Nurses are responsible for administering medications to patients. They must have a thorough understanding of different medications, their dosages, and potential side effects. Patient Safety: Nurses must prioritize patient safety at all times. This includes identifying potential risks, implementing preventive measures, and advocating for patient rights. Documentation: Accurate and timely documentation is essential in nursing. Nurses must maintain detailed records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes. Health Promotion: Nurses educate and encourage patients to adopt healthy lifestyle choices. They provide information on nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention. Teamwork and Collaboration: Nursing is a collaborative profession. Nurses must work effectively as part of a healthcare team, communicating and collaborating with other professionals to provide holistic care to patients. These fundamentals of nursing form the foundation for providing safe, compassionate, and effective care to individuals across various healthcare settings.


13-Clinical Chemistry:-

The primary objective of the course focuses on fundamental ideas in clinical biochemistry. It is the study of bodily fluid biochemistry in both healthy and sick states. A solid foundation in molecular chemistry and basic biochemistry of biomolecules is required for this course. Endocrine system problems are covered at the beginning of the course. We\'ll also look into biomolecule anomalies that lead to serious health issues. Understanding the endocrine system is one of the key goals of this course because it is expected of the students to learn about the many hormones detected in the clinical biochemistry lab on a regular basis, for example. Furthermore, in order to get students ready for clinical labs at hospitals, It is imperative that students possess a fundamental understanding of the diseases brought on by biomolecules, including lipoproteins and cardiovascular illnesses. The course\'s second section will cover kidney and liver anatomy in relation to human disorders. The classification and significance of protein biomarkers, particularly albumin and immunoglobulins, in contemporary diagnostic laboratories will be taught to the students. There will also be research on gastrointestinal disorders such celiac disease and pancreatitis. Students will study uric acid and gout in the last chapter.

In this course, students will learn about the physiological and pathological underpinnings of biochemical investigations, as well as practical methods for measuring various biochemical parameters, result interpretation, and the clinical uses of these tests for diagnosis. These variables consist of enzymes, proteins, and metabolic byproducts.

INSTITUTE COURSES:

1-Computer Application:-

In this module the basics of computer hardware and software will be introduced to students i order to prepare them with necessary computer knowledge and working abilities in their bot personal and academic life. Students will be instructed theoretically and practically on using computer hardware components, operating systems, browsing and searching techniques, designing presentations, working with text processors, and working on data spreadsheets.Upon completing this course, students will be able to:Work on Windows Operating System (Windows 10).

  •  Using Learnata (e-learning System) and emails

  • Search using google search engine and several important websites

  •  Prepare a MS PowerPoint presentation with well-designed and organized slides having notes, header, footer, date, time, and applying appropriate animations and transition.

  •  Using MS Word document for processing texts, organizing data tables and shapes with a friendly format, generating automatic table of contents, inserting citations and references bliography.

  •  Using MS Excel for processing data tables, formatting table cells, analyzing data, applying formulas & functions, and using charts.


2-Academic Debate:-

This course is designed to develop students’ skills in academic thinking, communication,argumentation and debate. The topics of this course train students to think critically, to be creative, communicative, and a qualified manager who respects others’ points of view and leads academic arguments as well. It is about Identifying problems and offering appropriate suggestions for solving such problems. 

The course trains them also to apply different sources for academic communication, to generate knowledge. Furthermore, students are directed to raise questions and analyze the scientific texts  logically and critically. Upon completion to this course students should have knowledge about,and be able to:

1. Respecting diversity of social relations in communities.

2. Developing Critical thinking and confident decision making.

3. Writing reports, includes their specific study kind of reports, paraphrasing their required texts.

4.  Preparing and giving presentations, and doing debates as well.

5. Writing a professional CV and knowing some ideas about how to do successful job interviews.


3-Kurdology:-

This course focuses on exploring the history of the Kurds from the point of view of Western explorers and historians. It dives into the role this Western story-telling on the Kurds while alsoevaluating the geopolitical and international significance of these people. The course also takes back students to the ancient history of Kurds during the time of the Medes. While the history is an important part of the module, it also puts emphasis on integrating the use of Latin alphabet in writing. As such, students are introduced to his kind of alphabet early on in the course and are encouraged to use it on a daily basis. Last but not least, students are required to do a number of presentations, posters, group discussion and classroom activities about the above-mentioned topics of the module.


DEGREE COURSES:

1-Medical Terminology:-

This module is structured to help students decode commonly used medical terms and understand how medical terminology relates to body conditions, parts and directions. Our main strategy to deliver this module is to encourage students to attend the classes and be involved in the required activities. Such activities include, taking notes in the class, verbal and written repetition, group working, using images, using medical dictionaries, text books of medical terminology, searching some specific websites, and other required approaches to motivate the students.

Medical terms can be complex, misleading and difficult to recall and memorize. Our aims are to help the students to:

1. Understand the origins of the words and the building structures of the terms - such as roots, prefixes and suffixes. Thus, the medical terminology will be easier to memorize, and can be easily recognized when used by healthcare professionals in labs, pharmacies, hospitals and clinics. 

2. Help the students to understand the meanings, and identify the foundation of medical terminology. 


The students are expected to:

1. Have a better understanding of the structure, root and origin of medical terms.

2. Use specific terms to define specific clinical conditions, body structures, amount, etc

3. Recall, pronounce and spell medical terms in a proper way

4. Analyze medical cases with regard to some concepts of medical terminology


2-Summer Training:-

The summer training course is a sort of internship and first formal opportunity provided by the institution to help students implement the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills they have acquired during their education in real-life situation. Based on their geographical area of residence, students are assigned to different community and public pharmacies for the duration of three month. This way, students are allowed to practice their skills in a real-life setting and under the supervision of industry professionals. This is the perfect opportunity for the students to integrate the academic and professional experience they have gained throughout their education.


3-Co-Curriculum:-

The co-curriculum module is designed to engage young people in their decision-making to create chances for them to develop and express their talents and abilities. The course achieves this goal by increasing youth awareness through media and education, bringing up their problems and societal challenges, rescuing them from abuse and violence, and defending their rights. Through experiential learning, this course aims to foster cooperation and leadership abilities. The following graduate-level skills will be taught: adaptation, lifelong learning, and ethics. All the skills will be taught and developed through the group work and assignment. Students will discuss themes pertaining to Kurdistan’s youth development in this course. The notions of youth in Kurdistan, the National Youth Development Policy, the youth movement in Kurdistan, and leadership are among the subjects of debate. The talks are also anticipated to have an influence on KTI students as well as students in terms of leadership development and young inspiration. The students in this course will work cooperatively to identify youth development organizations and construct development programs as part of a service-learning environment. To carry out the programs, students must demonstrate leadership and communication abilities. Additionally, throughout program execution, students are encouraged to use soft skills and be receptive to the neighborhood youth development organizations.
